Writing Drafted in Gemini: The Phrases That Give It Away, and How to Fix Them

The stock patterns that show up most often in Gemini drafts, with before-and-after edits that make the prose sound like a person wrote it.

Gemini is fast and it produces tidy, well-organized drafts. The trouble is that the tidiness itself can be what makes a piece read as machine-written. Once you can name the phrases that create that impression, turning a Gemini draft into your own voice gets a lot easier.

Patterns that show up again and again

Gemini output tends to lean on a handful of habits.

  • The panoramic opening: starting with a sweeping generality — "in today's fast-paced digital world", "as the landscape continues to evolve".
  • Compulsory balance: "While it is true that X, on the other hand Y" — both sides weighed out mechanically, every time.
  • Over-listing: every paragraph broken into "first, second, third" or a bullet list.
  • The stock landing: "in conclusion", "ultimately, it is important to remember that…".
  • Adjective inflation: "crucial", "powerful", "innovative", "robust", repeated until they stop meaning anything.

One or two of these read perfectly naturally. When they cluster in a single piece, a reader picks up the pattern fast.

Before / after, phrase by phrase

PatternBeforeAfter
Panoramic openingIn modern society, time management is extremely importantTwo deadlines landed in the same week and my schedule came apart
Compulsory balanceThere are advantages, but there are also disadvantagesCosts dropped, but the initial setup took three days
Stock landingIn conclusion, effort is what mattersSo next month I'm going to start by changing the reminders

The move underneath all three is the same: trade abstract nouns for concrete experience and numbers. Human writing contains cases, hesitation, and exceptions.

The order to edit in

  1. Delete the stock phrasing in the first sentence and the last sentence first.
  2. Take one of the bulleted stretches and write it back out as a prose paragraph.
  3. Halve the intensifiers — "very", "truly", "powerful".
  4. Drop in one or two of your own experiences, numbers, or dates.

Comparing the AI probability in the AI detector before and after the edit is a good way to get a feel for which paragraphs read mechanically. When a passage won't loosen up, run it through the humanizer to see the sentence rhythm another way, and the AI detector page explains what the score is reading.

A result is not a pass or a fail. It's a reference AI probability, useful as a pointer toward what to revise and nothing more.
