How to Run an AI Check: The Procedure, and How to Read the AI Probability
How to run an AI detection check and how to read the result — a working guide to the procedure and to interpreting the AI probability.
Where to start
"Can you check whether this was written by AI?" is now an ordinary request in schools, offices, and content teams alike. But people using a detector for the first time tend to swing to one extreme or the other — leaning entirely on a single number, or dismissing the result outright. Both the procedure and the interpretation matter.
The procedure itself is simple.
- Get the whole piece ready. Feeding in a couple of paragraphs gives you a small sample and an unstable result.
- Paste the text into the AI detector and run it.
- Read the AI probability that comes back.
- Look separately at the stretches that scored high.
Where you can, run the same piece paragraph by paragraph as well as whole. Sections that the overall number hides tend to surface that way.
How to read the AI probability
The result is a statistical signal, not a finding of guilt. AI-generated text tends toward even sentence length and predictable word choice, and the detector puts a number on those patterns. The AI detector page covers the background.
| Band | What it suggests | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Low | Close to human writing patterns | No further checking needed |
| Middle | Hard to conclude anything | Re-check by section, read in context |
| High | Strong AI-pattern signal | Review the sources and how it was written |
A few cautions.
- Translated prose, heavily formatted reports, and very short pieces can score high even when a person wrote them.
- Lightly edited AI text, conversely, sometimes scores low.
- So the safest use of a score is as the start of a conversation, not as the basis for a decision.
Using checks to write better
If the aim of checking becomes "avoiding detection", the point is lost. The better use is to look at the high-scoring stretches and ask whether your own writing has gone monotonous there. Vary the rhythm, add your own experience and concrete cases, and the prose loosens. If you want to work a draft into something more genuine, tidy the phrasing with the humanizer and then go over it once more in your own words.
Good writing, in the end, isn't writing that fools a detector. It's writing that reaches the reader.
A result here is a reference AI probability rather than a verdict, and the final judgment has to be made by a person, in context.
